Deep breath. Slowly exhale. Deep inhalation. Slowly let go. Now, write the number. The publishing company wants their money first. I can’t blame them. Most people want what they deserve. But it’s still hard to believe that I’ve come this far. To the publisher’s I mean.
A World Alone should be hot of the press soon. Many people have asked, let’s hope they were serious. Because I was. And the publisher is. And Richard backed me, again. He’s such a good guy! I mean really good. The kind of husband every woman deserves. Anyway, if you read This World So Fierce, you’ll want to read A World Alone. I can’t even tell you how the book begins, because the beginning relies on the end of the first one. That’s how sequels work. It’s how they are supposed to, anyway.
Have you ever read a book then find out it’s part of a series. So you read the first books and realize you could have just moved on? How disappointed is that? Of course, each book sort of has to stand alone. It’s just so much better when sequels follow. As for prequels, honestly, should it even be a thing? Origin story. Anh, okay. If you push the timing back far enough and tie everything together. But I generally find it too simple. I’m a reader who wants thick red meat. The book needs to challenge me. I like complex characters and moving plots. And something has to give me a sense that I’m invested. I love heart-pounding, tears rolling, laughing too loud. Those are my books.
Are they the books I write? Well, I hope so. The thing is my books are meant for teenagers, and I don’t use foul, disgusting language or scenery. There will be no blood, guts, or gore! Readers should know what happens, but their imagination should work, too. That’s how they become invested.
And all of that to say… A World Alone is at the printers. I don’t have a publishing date. I don’t even have a book cover. But all in due time. It’s just so difficult to breathe sometimes.
