On my last post (here), I told you that I’ve begun another CASA quilt based on my novel, This World So Fierce. Two things are happening quickly. The first is that the sequel A World Alone is close to finished! Well, the writing part anyway. Never the less, I’m terribly excited about that.

But this post is about the quilt on the design wall and where we are now. We, my friends, are close to completing the flimsy. In fact, I need only to finish putting together a few of the large strips and then sew the large strips together.

Two of those strips are complete. The are on the left and hanging higher than the others. (I decided that I’d rather reach up than bend down.) There are only three large strips left, and those have only two or three chunks to sew together. I’m pressing and trimming as I go, so I can jump right to the vertical seams when the strips are done.

We love our LSU Tigers here in Louisiana! Therefore, for the backing, I thought it befitting to use this tiger fabric (#3850 “wild side tigers” by Makower Fabric in the U.K.) There’s more than enough for this quilt, and probably another! Another reason to use the fabric is that in the sequel to This World, Nikki attends LSU for two semesters. I want to include that in my note to the CASA recipient, who I’ll suggest be a young teenage boy.

The quilt should be about 60″ X 75″ when complete. I’ve taken measurements all along, none of which I trusted, but it’s getting easier to determine the size. I’m hopeful that this one will be on the long arm by the end of the week and ready to turn in to the Modern Guild when I next get to Baton Rouge. Of course, I’ll include a signed copy of This World So Fierce with the quilt.
