Improv Piecing Workshop beginner to advanced; domestic machine; all levels 1-3 hours, $25 per student with 15 student minimum. 4-6 hours, $35 per student with 15 student minimum.
This beautiful wall-hanging or lap quilt is a fun way to try your hand at piecing using improv techniques. You can choose from quarter log cabins or whole log cabins and create your own unique design, despite using the same techniques as other students. This is an enjoyable class that will show you how to use improv piecing without stress. The well-known log cabin block lends itself to fast, easy piecing so that you can achieve your improv goals while creating blocks you are familiar with.
You Will Learn:
color theory
modern traditionalism–using familiar blocks to create and learn more in-depth techniques
negative space and color spacing
quilting motifs for modern quilts
improv quilting on your domestic machine
Supply List:
Your favorite sewing machine with a straight stitch (don’t forget the petal, wires, extension cord, etc.)
Fat quarters in a variety of whites for background fabric
Backing fabric— ½ yd by wof or larger (must be 4-6 inches larger than the finished top)
Batting scrap the size of your backing fabric
Variety of fabrics—choose two or three of your favorite colors and find coordinating fabrics in solids. Don’t be tempted to bring too many colors or hues. This is controlled chaos!
