Do you use flat-head pins to rotary cut your patterns? Those are good for lots of things, but I have issues with them: they are thin and bend easily, the heads fall off, and they don’t hold the fabric as tightly as I’d like. I want my fabric, pattern and pins to work together. Having cut myself with the rotary cutter once (and taking forever to heal), I want to avoid doing that again!
So I like these older model, quilting pins more. The problem is that they have this huge head. Putting your ruler over this and trying to cut is rather like an elephant standing on a stool. Something is going to go wrong. A bit like what I expected from my studio tour video (see it here), but it got a nice response.
Of course, I can’t let a thing as simple as big-head pins get in my way. I tried several times to figure it out but always ran into the same problem. The big heads get in the way. Eventually, I had an AHA! moment. I love those. I especially loved them when students had big ideas. It’s fun to see someone’s eyes light up.
Anyway, I finally figured it out. Plus, I made a video. Watch the video here on YouTube and see if it’s worth the effort. Hopefully, you haven’t gotten rid of your favorite pins. If you enjoy it, please follow, like, and share if you did. You know, all that social media stuff.
