In this post, I wrote a free resource on how to create an improv four-patch. Once you have a few of those put together, you can use them in a variety of ways. Here are four:
Twist and turn row–make four of these in a variety of colors and sizes, then sew together in rows. Several of these rows could be the beginning of a scrap quilt.

Four-patch of four-patches–make your four-patches and sew them together to create a large four-patch, or 16-patch. (I left a thin white line between the four patches to make them easier to see.)

Four-patch with sashing–use sashing to separate any size block.

Alternating four-patches–use blocks of neutrals, in this case grays, to separate the four-patch blocks. It’s a quick way to stretch scraps and save time.

You can find four-patch blocks on my “heart, quilts” Pinterest board, which has over 14,000 quilts on it! I hope this helps you to use up scraps and understand how versatile improv can be.
