New beginnings and a clean sweep

Several family members visited during the weekend of my sister’s funeral last Monday. One sister, Jeanne, lives in North Dakota, so she decided to make use of the drive down by staying for an extra week. That means five of us were able to get together again and have lunch. We found a lovely, family-owned restaurant that serves portions large enough for two meals. Unfortunately, I had an anxiety attack and didn’t order anything. One of my sisters got me a nice roll, and another brought a Sprite, so it was a light lunch for me. However, I am excited to return because the food looked delicious. Home-made cornbread, a little cake, fried chicken, fried catfish, shrimp etouffee, and a host of sides. Richard and I will have to take a trip to Alexandria and go to Pamela’s Bayou in a Bowl Restaurant.
In other news, my first Houston class has already sold out. It turns out, that was about the third or fourth day after everything was released. I try not to check on stuff like that too often. One, I don’t want to “jinx” it and two, I’ll fret over something I can’t control. There’s no sense in doing that. I’d rather focus on what I can control, which seems to be very little–certainly not my anxiety. Ah, life.
Monday, the Cotton Quilters’ Guild enjoyed our regular meeting. Things are looking great with the CQG. We have a new president who is a crazy woman when it comes to sewing and quilting. She and some friends had a quilt retreat at her “Hen House,” and the things they accomplished in one week is amazing. I still wonder what they will do with all the bags…perhaps they sell them at craft shows. Hmm, I should ask. Actually, not that I want to get back into the craft show circuit. That was much too miserable the few times I tried.
Anyway, the photos here are of a few of the items that we shared. I especially like the BOM blocks. Oddly, we had three blocks last month, so I sorted them into sets of the same blocks. I love how the pictures show secondary blocks and how the change in color or texture makes such a difference in the look of the block. Really, I had trouble figuring out some because they did not appear to be the same block! I am about three months (so nine blocks) behind on this project. But there are a few things I need to do before I begin another project. Thus, I am cleaning the studio. It’s both a way out of doing other things and a motivation to do the things I need to get finished. Also, it’s working. I’ve gotten things put away, made some hard decisions about what to do with stuff I will likely never use, and feel more relaxed in my own home.

And this is my post about the flooding that happened in my hometown. Things are beginning to look better, but it will still take some time for people to get back to their normal lives. Have a wonderful week and weekend, y’all!
