If Only I Could Churn Out Quilts This Way

Before the quilt discussion, let’s just get this out of the way. Our children who live next door had a few goats. Those goats had kids. The kids grew up and they had kids. And… well, you can probably figure out the rest of that line of thinking. All of the goats who are now capable of having kids are now doing just that. I don’t go out there very often, but babies tend to whisper my name. So, a trip or two seemed in order. Richard, who does go out there often (and probably helped a momma or two) took a few photos.

These mommas are getting close.

Now, the quilt discussion: I have enjoyed precious few moments in the studio. The holidays, the flu, the children…everything in life in general seemed to get in the way. The other problem, now that all of those things have returned to normal, is that I have to face the houses quilt that my guild worked last year. It should be finished, but it’s too big for one quilt and too small to make two quilts. So it’s worrisome dilemma and I don’t want to face it. Maybe, perhaps, I was avoiding it. Eventually, however, I did face it. I took a few blocks out and put them in the dead zone of unused blocks. At least for now. The usable blocks are now in strips, pressed, and trimmed. Ready for me to sew together.
I get distracted by the silliest of things: sleeping late, reading, embroidery, movies, baby goats. Those baby goats have grown to the cutest stage: they bounce and jump and play. How can I not watch them for a few minutes when I step outside? A few minutes become several minutes, which becomes way-too-minutes. (Kind like the goat herd.) My best intentions fly away the moment a new, shiny idea comes to me. I have to figure out how to focus on finishing that house quilt and get it onto the longarm.
Because I really want to begin a new project! Do you struggle with shiny ideas? How do you handle them? Leave a comment.
