A Playful, Intuitive Approach to Improv Quilting Improv quilting is an art. The more you understand how to respond to what’s in front of you, the more comfortable you will feel working in an improv manner. Some of the advantages of improv quilting are that there are no patterns, no mistakes, no stress. You simply enjoy the rhythm of sewing, feeding two pieces of fabric under your needles again and again, finding an almost-Zen rhythm.

Note: because all improv quilts are different every time one is made, the photos here are representations of some I have made over the years. The two last photos (the pink and green row quilt and the fall-colored medallion) are quilts I made using the same directions for blocks.
