More Color Inspiration from My Computer to Yours

If you love color, this post is for you! I love creating these color inspiration boards. They are relatively fast, as I’m getting better at EQ8, which was one of my goals. Also, making them is lots of fun. I generally begin with an inspiration. Today’s is an improv log cabin block that I made for my local guild. Last month, everyone received two fat quarters. One was the same print, and the others were from only two or three different fabrics.

When I first got the pieces, I was a bit disappointed. I don’t even know why, because I worked on it right away. Since the log cabins were on my mind from whatever other project, I decided to go with it. The “hearth” block is the center one with the flowers. The brown mushroom block is from the second fabric. Everything added to those two came from my stash. I really wanted to make it a bit different from an ordinary log cabin, so I added a few skinnies. I think when the skinnies are curvy, they help move the eye around the quilt. Do you feel that way? Answer in the comments. I’d love to know what you think.

I created these boards on Pinterest using the collage feature. It’s really fast and fun “work” if I could just remember where all the buttons are! I can work on a collage and forget in two days what I did previously. Come on!

And on news from the homefront, I worked on Jolie’s ball dress for the Army Ball which is this coming Saturday. She has the sweetest Army fella wrapped around her pinkie. She’s a little short, so everything needs to be altered, especially this dress. It was dragging on the floor and she wants to dance. I made videos of the process, but since I haven’t processed them, it may be a while till one full video is on YouTube. Wish me luck. Thus far, my video editing skills are not even close to my writing editing abilities.

She brought it Sunday, which was Easter, but we managed to get it fitted and measured. Today, I cut and hemmed both the sheer skirt and the heavier slip. I tried pressing the skirt because I was afraid that the new hem would open up the pleats. That did not work very well. I ended up pressing the hem without touching the pleats as much as possible. I tried to press the pleats, but that’s an insane idea.

The slip was easy enough. It alone would have taken no time, but that skirt! A complaint for another day. I called Jolie and gave her the bad news: I think I cut it too short. Actually, I think the problem is that I could not turn the hem as tightly as I need to, but my sweet girl is so easy going that she told me not to worry, “we’ll make it work.” And with that, I have decided to listen to her.

Thanks for visiting! Leave a comment if you’ve ever worked on a dress made of sheer organza? Did you struggle? If not tell me your secret, please.
